Fall’s Arrival

Fall’s Arrival

The new season is here and the farm is turning with it. We’ve built quite a store of dried flowers and foliage to have for fall and winter arrangements and wreaths. Above is a bit of what I’ve put together for orders. The same ingredients will be available the next 4 to 6 weeks for Dried Bouquet Bar Thursdays at the farm shop! Doors are open 1 to 5pm for build-your-own vase or wreath arrangement. Bouquet bars have really boomed in the last year. If you haven’t gone to one yet, you’re in for a treat!

A couple of weeks ago we finished getting the last of our October and November harvests in the ground. Below is a peek at our first request for a fall color fresh flower arrangement received this week; heleniums and blackberries are hidden little surprises between the blooms.

Tim and I continue to share about the same tasks as we mostly always have. He largely handles the big moving chores- turning beds and creating new ones, running and re-running irrigation, and manning the machinery to get all that done. I plan the crops, seed the trays, arrange our offerings, and largely handle the digital tasks for the farm. We both pitch in for harvesting, along with our small crew, who also helps me plant out the seedlings when they’re ready, and weed. Always with the weeding! Now, sharing shop hours is on our list of job duties. Sammy and Wally, our feline farmers, and Charlie, the canine commissioner, are all part of the daily rhythm here. We love it.

Grasses started last winter matured well for the late summer harvest. It just so happened that we received a custom request for grasses in an arrangement (pictured below) last week. Some things just work out! Grasses take time and precise planning, with the right amount of water at the right time for the plants to thrive. Their texture and movement, along with their soft colors are such a fresh touch to arrangements going into the fall season through winter.

Pumpkins from our little patch are also finishing quite well and will be included in arrangement options and featured in an upcoming workshop. This is a time of deeper breaths and the feeling of anticipation for all that is ahead.

Cheers,

Lis & Tim
